Who we are
We are a group of local people who are planting trees and fruit for everyone to enjoy.
Where We Are
The Forest Garden is on an ex-allotment site between Dewhurst Road allotments, woods and Dewhurst Road back lane. We pay a small rent to the council to use the land. See our Contact page for a location map and Forest Garden Map for a map of the site including what harvests are available and when...
What we doWe started planting trees and fruit bushes in 2005 and now the trees give a good crop. We've been clearing rubbish and fallen down sheds to make the site safer and cleaner and we cut the paths back and make new paths to open up the site. We've been recording what is already there that has grown wild from when the allotments were in use (spring onions, rhubarb, red currents, globe artichokes....) and we use and share the fruit and other harvests. We've also been clearing Japanese Knot-weed at the top of the site and felling trees that are shading out the fruit under-storey.
Other projects include:
We've had a few Events, Blossom Days, Apple Days, Rubbish Clearing Days and we've shown people where to find whatever is in season at the time. We have many ideas for the future and welcome people to get involved and share their ideas and experience. |
